Call on The Mighty God

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given...and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God..." ~ Isaiah 9:6.

"'Tis a point I long to know,
Oft it causes anxious thought,
Do I love the Lord or no?
Am I his or am I not?
~ Charles Spurgeon

Through the simplicity of the Christmas message, I'm still awestruck that God became man. Why would He do this?

Because we were spiraling into the dark abyss of our own sin.

While we were yet sinners, The Mighty God "gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good" Titus 2:14.

But here we are, stuck in the hustle-bustle like bugs in glue. We don't have to be, though. Pull away from the fray. Realize, once and for all, there will never be any lasting comfort in the things of this world. Without the realization of Christ deep in our hearts, Christmas becomes just an empty ritual.

"There's no lasting value in any earthly gift or any earthly sentiment expressed. The tree always dies metaphorically unless it never lived because it was fake to begin with. No package and no party can really sustain a flickering life. No bright lights can lift up the downcast soul to a higher spiritual level. There is no power in Santa Claus. There is no power in a tree. There's no power in fellowship and there's no power in lights, sentiments. And when you are desperate, you need power. In the hour of need all Christmas has to offer is Jesus Christ. And He is utterly sufficient. Only He can fill the heart with hope in the time of doubt. Only He can fill the heart with lasting joy in the time of sadness. Only He can fill the heart with peace in a time of fear." ~ John MacArthur, taken from The Power of Christmas Truth .

Unto us this Son is given. He is The Mighty God, strong in power, to save, forgive, restore, transform, sustain, fullfill, and DELIVER. We don't have to look for a purpose when we know Him. To know Him IS our purpose.

"I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" John 14:6.

"In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses" Ephesians 1:7.

"For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men" (Titus 2: 11).

"But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy" (Titus 3:4).

"This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins" (1 John 4:1o).

Ah, sweet Christmas truth! Believe it! Like Charles Spurgeon once said to his beloved congregation, "Oh, my dear hearers, rest not content unless you know assuredly that Christ is yours, and that you are Christ's."

If you're restless today because of holiday stress, let it go. But if you're restless today because deep in your heart, you're not sure you have Christ, don't let this moment go without turning first to Him. "Today if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart."

Lord Jesus Christ, I believe you are the Son of God, sent to redeem my life from sin and selfish living. I need You to change my heart. Forgive me for my sin and for trying to live apart from you. Fill me now with your Holy Spirit and enable me to walk in your ways. You alone are Almighty God, strong and able to change me from the inside out. I give you my heart. Take my life and make it new. Give me your Spirit of wisdom and understanding, that I might know you better. Be glorified in me, dear Lord. Amen.

"I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead..." ~ Ephesians 1:17-20.
